Not Quite to Plan

I've been for a few runs over the past few weeks. I went for a few circuits of route 1 on the 3rd and 9th. It took 20:53 and 20:46 respectively. I also went for a run around Abingdon Route 2 (see link to the right). It is 3.47 miles (5.55km). It took 31:04. I will be going for another run tomorrow. I'll update the training calendar and try and get a table for my run times together. I'll also try to upate this blog more regularly!

First Run

Last Week didn't go quite to plan. It was raining quite hard on the Sunday, so I didn't go for a run as I thought it was too cold and wet. But I then went and played football in sub-zero conditions and driving snow on Monday, so I decided to stop being a wuss and went for a run on Tuesday. I did the 2.5 mile (4km) run in Abingdon (see the route link to the right for a map). I did the circuit in 23 minutes and 4 seconds. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I wasn't pushing myself particularly hard so I'm sure I could do better. I played football again on Wednesday and also fit in a game on Saturday while I was away.

I will hopefully get another 4km run in this evening.

Training

Right, I've had a look at a few sites on the internet (notably http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10knovice.htm) and have come up with a bit of a training plan for myself. I play football twice a week, so I'm going to continue doing that. I'll go to the gym on a Tuesday for some free weights/strength training. Thursday's I'll rest. Friday's I'll go for a short run. Then Saturday or Sunday I'll do a longer run (the other day of the weekend I'll rest). The weekend run will get longer and longer as the date of the race gets nearer.

I've also come up with a few running routes of increasing distance, both in Abingdon, where I live, and Oxford, where I work. See the links at the right for maps.

Anyway, I'm going to get the ball rolling by going for a run tomorrow!

Introduction

In order to improve my fitness, maybe lose a bit of weight and do a bit for charity, I have signed up to go on a fun run in May. You can check out the website at http://www.oxfordtownandgown.org/. I've just send off the application form so I should be getting some sponsorship forms in the post int he next few days.

I'm going to but together a little training schedule for myself (which I will hopefully be able to display in a Google calendar on this page). I might even buy one of the those running magazines and do it "by the book". I haven't attempted to run anything like this distance in years, so it should be quite an experience!
